Papers, 1858-1863 (bulk 1858-1861).

These are letters written by I. Chapin Bartlett to his family. At the time Bartlett was a student at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky and lived with the family of college president Dr. Lewis Warner Green. He describes campus life and activities of the literary society to which he belonged, as well as noting growing antagonism between Union and Confederate sympathizers at the school.

The literary societies at Centre College began with the formation in 1828 of the Chamberlain Philosophical and Literary Society, named in honor of the College's first President, Rev.
